KU URBAN PLANNING AICP LUNCHEON SERIESThe KU Department of Urban Planning is pleased to present a series of monthly professional continuing education luncheons in collaboration with Metro KC-APA, the Kansas Chapter of the American Planning Association, and the Kansas City Design Center. This series of lunch meetings is intended to:

Johnson, Ph.D., AICP THIS EVENT, ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR MAY 21, 2010, HAS BEEN POSTPONED. Bonnie Johnson is assistant professor in the KU Department of Urban Planning. Her teaching and research interests include civic bureaucracy, transportation and land use policy related to sustainability, community visioning processes, and public participation. She is also active as the Indian Hills Neighborhood Association Chair in Lawrence. June/July 2010 (date pending) Kirk McClure is Professor of Urban Planning. His teaching and research interests include housing affordability, community development, and real estate development. His presentation will focus on the problems created when the supply of real estate space is allowed to grow faster than the capacity of the market to absorb that space, and the role of planners in the real estate crisis. Past EventsFebruary 26, 2010 Frank Lenk is an economist and Director of Research Services for the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC). MARC is working with local governments, transit providers, community partners and the public to develop a new long-range transportation plan for the Kansas City region — Transportation Outlook 2040. By adapting to change and adopting policies that attract development to centers of activities and major corridors, the Kansas City region can change from one that is hollowing out in the middle to one where all parts share in the region’s prosperity — where all parts are healthy. March 26, 2010 Stacey Swearingen White is Associate Professor in the KU Department of Urban Planning. Her research interests are in the areas of environmental planning and policy, including stormwater management, sustainable communities, public participation, open space protection, and planning pedagogy. She also serves as the Director of Academic Programs for the KU Center for Sustainability. April 16, 2010 The Galloway Urban Planning Lecture Series presents Robert Cervero, Professor of City & Regional Planning at the University of California-Berkeley and Director, University of California Transportation Center. His current research is on the intersection between infrastructure, place-making, and economic development as well as urban transformations and their impacts on travel behavior.
