Resident Design Fellowship

The Kansas City Design Center has sponsored a resident design fellowship to support research and conceptual design projects with the potential to strengthen the character and vitality of Kansas City’s public realm.

The fellowship provides an opportunity for individuals possessing extraordinary talents to apply their skills and insights to local issues through a process that engages local practitioners, civic leaders, faculty, students, and the public at large.

The fellowship also is intended to produce a finished product with lasting impact on architectural, urban design, planning, and landscape issues in the Kansas City region.

In 2002, the KCDC awarded its first resident fellowship to Alex S. MacLean, principal and founder of Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Landslides Aerial Photography, for an aerial photography project examining metropolitan growth patterns, environmental and ecological issues, and the relationships between the built and natural environments of the Kansas City region.
