Urban Visualization

The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City has recently assigned the KCDC responsibility for hosting and updating a 3-dimensional CAD-based digital model as a tool to assist the public, civic, not-for-profit and private sectors to better plan, design, develop and revitalize Kansas City's urban core.

The KCDC is responsible for maintaining, hosting and improving the model, which was developed by Sasaki Associates as part of the Downtown Corridor Strategy update released in June 2005.

The KCDC will refine the model through the incorporation of conceptual design and development proposals. Detailed enhancements of existing buildings represented in the model will be developed by affiliated faculty and students, as well as KCDC student interns.

The KCDC will develop evaluative animations and visualizations to help inform public dialogues about ongoing development in the urban core, and will make the model available to our civic partners and other key stakeholders, including local design firms. We also plan to incorporate selected graphics and animations from the model into CityScapes, the KCDC's visual resource database.
