‘Integration’ Design Scheme

The Integration scheme was focused on allowing the reservoir to become part of the surrounding area of Kessler Park. This was done by the removal of the southern edge of the reservoir, opening it to the rest of the park and the neighborhood. With the removal of the south wall, Integration aims to create a hub for regional events within Kessler Park and by extension, the northeast neighborhoods. This was intended to help integrate the space within the reservoir as part of the park and also help to serve the neighborhood. Moreover, the removal of the southern wall also helps to solve site concerns regarding the reservoir in its current state and instigate options for unique programmatic opportunities.

The scheme is divided into four primary architectural elements: the Entry Plaza, South Basin Canopies, Middle Wall and North Pavilion. These are supported by secondary spaces in the Front Lawn and North Basin. The North Basin is the primary regional draw to the area with a large amphitheater and stage. The South Basin and Front Lawn allow for the neighborhood to have daily uses throughout the year even without large events happening within the reservoir.
