This spring, KCDC students developed concepts for a public realm activation in downtown Kansas City during the World Cup. The students presented their proposals to representatives from HNTB and the Downtown Council, where a winning design was selected for implementation.

Thanks to the support of our sponsors, HNTB and NTDF, the students’ work is now being fabricated, and we will be hosting a pop-up activation at Oppenstein Park throughout June. The project is designed to create a welcoming downtown gathering space where people can relax, play, and connect during the World Cup.

Join us for the opening celebration on the first World Cup match day, June 16, from 11 AM–2 PM. The event will feature a food truck and custom lawn games designed and built by KCDC students. If you can’t make the opening celebration, the park will continue to be activated Tuesdays through Thursdays for the remainder of June.
