The vision for the North Segment is to reframe the riverfront as a connected public landscape that links neighborhoods, restores ecological systems, and prioritizes safe, continuous movement. Connecting the West Bottoms, River Market, and Columbus Park, the North Segment addresses long-standing barriers created by the floodwall and rail lines that have limited pedestrian access to the riverfront. Pedestrian access to the riverfront is severely limited by the floodwall and rail lines. Through enhanced crossings, lighting, and clear sightlines, the proposed pathway improves comfort and visibility, transforming disconnected edges into accessible pathways. Native planting and ecological systems restore the riverfront while supporting habitat and stormwater management. The North Segment activates the riverfront by introducing access, programming, and continuous movement along the water’s edge.

Riders traveling along the North Segment would enter from the west via a Mulberry Street crossing in the West Bottoms, providing pedestrians with a safe way to cross the rail lines to get to the riverfront. From there, the route heads east past the Town of Kansas Bridge and along the Berkley Riverfront, allowing users to ride along the riverfront the whole way. The route would connect to the East Segment through a multimodal Lydia Avenue bridge.
