Spring 2026 | West Bottoms
The West Bottoms Greenline is reimagined as a welcoming neighborhood that celebrates its rich industrial heritage while embracing new opportunities for recreation, economic development, and community life. Historically shaped by rail infrastructure, warehouses, manufacturing, and its unique relationship to the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers, the West Bottoms possesses a distinctive character that serves as the foundation for this vision. The Greenline will act as a vital arterial connection to envision a reactivated Riverfront that fosters recreation, improved quality of life, diverse community connectivity, and resilient sustainability along the Kansas River flood plain.
Riders traveling through the West Bottoms would enter the Greenline from the south via Avenida César E. Chávez, where they are welcomed into the district through a series of wayfinding elements. The route follows the river corridor, offering views of the historic industrial landscape and the Kansas river. The trail continues to a crossing at Mulberry Street, where riders transition into the northern segment of the Greenline, strengthening connections between the riverfront, surrounding neighborhoods, and the larger Greenline network.
